They had no trucks, no station, and no budget \u2014 only a shared belief that neighbors look after neighbors.<\/p>\n      <p>Today, <strong>26 volunteer firefighters<\/strong> respond from one station at <strong>224 W Highway 473<\/strong>, maintaining thirteen pieces of apparatus for wildland, structure, vehicle, and water rescue operations across Kendall and Kerr County.<\/p>\n      <p>The department is a <strong>501(c)(3) nonprofit<\/strong>, funded in part by county contracts and in part by the community \u2014 through Fish Fry plates, the Fireman's Ball, Car Shows, and direct donations from people who understand that this department runs on neighbors, not tax dollars.<\/p>\n      <p>The noon siren at the station has <strong>not missed a single day<\/strong> since it was installed. That siren is also Comfort's emergency warning system \u2014 the one that saved the town on July 4th, 2025, when the Guadalupe River flooded and over 100 people upstream lost their lives. Our primary response area covers the Comfort Rural Fire Prevention District in Kendall County, with mutual aid agreements extending into Kerr County and neighboring districts.<\/p>\n          <p>When a call goes out, it doesn't matter what kind. Structure fire, brush fire, vehicle accident, medical emergency, water rescue \u2014 we respond. Our volunteers show up when someone falls and can't get up, when a heart attack strikes at 2 AM, when a car leaves the road on 473, when a boat capsizes on the Guadalupe, when smoke is coming from a neighbor's roof. If it's an emergency in our district, we are coming.<\/p>\n          <p>The Guadalupe River runs through our response area, which means swiftwater and flood rescue are a core part of what we do.
