Flood Recovery Resources for Comfort

  • Emergency: Call 911
  • Food, shelter, utility assistance, cleanup help, crisis counseling: Dial 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905
  • Report flood or storm damage: Visit damage.tdem.texas.gov. Take photos or video before cleanup when it's safe to do so. This survey does not replace an insurance claim or guarantee assistance.
  • Insurance questions: Texas Department of Insurance, 800-252-3439
  • Repairs and permits: Contact the Kendall County Engineer's Office at 830-249-9343 before beginning major repairs. Development permits may be required for flood-damaged properties.
  • Local food and basic-needs assistance: Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries, 830-249-0025, or Hill Country Family Services, 830-249-8643
  • County alerts and recovery updates: kendallcountytx.gov/AlertCenter.aspx
  • Cleanup supplies: Cleanup buckets are available at the Comfort VFD station while supplies last

The Comfort Volunteer Fire Department runs on 26 volunteers who give their time, skills, and commitment to protect this community. We need people in all roles — on the truck and off it.

AVAILABLE ROLES
🚒
Volunteer
Respond to structure fires, brush fires, vehicle accidents, and EMS calls. Training provided through TEEX and in-house Tuesday night drills.

Special Events
Help organize the Fish Fry, Fireman's Ball, Car Show, and fundraising auctions that keep the department running year to year.

Office & Support
Data entry, inventory management, administrative support, and ordering. Critical work that keeps operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

Fundraising
CVFD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that depends entirely on community support. Help plan and execute the events and campaigns that keep the department funded and equipped.

TRAINING
Built to make you ready.
CVFD conducts in-house training 3-4 Tuesday nights per month and attends outside trainings through TEEX 5-6 times per year. Certifications available include:
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Firefighter I & II (TCFP / SFFMA)
  • Swiftwater Rescue
  • Vehicle Extrication
  • Wildland Firefighting
  • Instructor Training
A NOTE ON GETTING STARTED

New members begin as probationary volunteers. It's a chance to get your footing, learn the department, and show us what you're made of. Once you've demonstrated your commitment, CVFD provides your full structural gear - a $6,000 investment we make in the people who show up. We don't hand that out lightly, and we don't take lightly the people who earn it.

JUNIOR FIRE BRIGADE

Building the next generation.

In partnership with the Comfort School District, CVFD runs a Junior Fire Brigade program that introduces young people to what it means to serve their community. Students learn fire safety, department operations, and the values that make a volunteer firefighter - awareness, responsibility, and a willingness to show up for others.
